The Menu Play
BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse (NASDAQ: BJRI) activated a system-wide holiday limited-time menu on November 5, anchored by a 16-ounce Hawaiian Rib Eye and two new shareable sides designed to capture premium casual-dining spend during the highest-traffic gifting period of the year. The chain, which operates more than 200 restaurants across 31 states, is leaning into steakhouse adjacency — a positioning move that several full-service casual-dining operators have employed to defend average check in the face of persistent consumer trade-down pressure.
The new entrée — a marinated ribeye finished with Hawaiian glaze and a grilled pineapple ring — leads a lineup that also includes Truffle Mac & Cheese (cavatappi in white truffle oil and white cheddar, topped with Gruyère, Jack, and a Parmesan panko crust, served skillet-side) and Loaded Mashed Potatoes. Truffle Fries round out the shareable set. BJ's noted the Truffle Mac & Cheese sold out during menu testing, a data point operators typically deploy to signal near-term attach-rate confidence and justify premium price positioning at the unit level.
Pizookie Reformulation
The signature Pizookie platform gets its seasonal refresh with the return of the Biscoff Brown Butter Pizookie — the brand's most visible dessert LTO vehicle. The item is reformulated this cycle around a brown butter cookie base, served warm with vanilla bean ice cream, cookie butter drizzle, Biscoff crumbles, and a whole Biscoff cookie. BJ's cited 65% consumer interest in brown butter desserts in 2026 as the flavor-trend rationale for the reformulation. The Biscoff Pizookie joins the recently introduced Nutella Gone Bananas Pizookie on the dessert card, giving servers a two-SKU upsell window on a daypart — dessert — that carries strong incremental margin for full-service operators.
On the beverage side, BJ's added the Glittery Goose Sangria and Caramel Macchiato Martini to its seasonal cocktail roster and is staging the 27th Annual Grand Cru, a limited-time Belgian-style holiday ale that the chain characterizes as its most-decorated annual brew release. Craft beer remains a core traffic and differentiation driver for BJ's, which has earned more than 270 medals in competition since 1996, including top placements at the 2026 World Beer Cup and North American Beer Awards.
Gift Card Incentive Structure
BJ's paired the menu launch with a layered gift-card promotion running November 5 through December 31 — a standard Q4 tactic for casual-dining chains seeking to pull forward future visits. The structure: a $10 bonus card on a $50 purchase, a $20 bonus card plus a 20% off VIP card at the $100 tier, and a Cyber Weekend window (November 27–30) that bumps the $100-tier bonus to $25. In-restaurant buyers at the $100 level also receive two collectible holiday pint glasses in most markets. Bonus and VIP cards activate January 4–31, 2027, compressing post-holiday return traffic into a defined window — a common unit-economics lever for managing January daypart softness in the full-service segment.
For casual-dining operators watching same-store sales trajectories into year-end, BJ's layered approach — premium LTO entrée, reformulated dessert anchor, craft beer release, and gift card ladder — reflects the multi-lever playbook chains are deploying to hold average check and drive Q1 visit frequency simultaneously. Full-service peers including Darden and Bloomin' Brands have pursued similar dual-track strategies, pairing seasonal menu news with gift card promotions to sustain traffic through the traditionally volatile January-February period. BJ's holiday menu is available nationwide for a limited time.
