Seasonal LTO Returns

Boar's Head is bringing back its Pumpkin Pie Dessert Hummus as a limited-time offering this fall, layering the seasonal SKU onto a broader packaging refresh across its Fine-Crafted Hummus Collection. The deli-channel move targets the autumn snacking and holiday-prep dayparts, positioning the brand's hummus line for incremental velocity at the deli counter heading into Q4.

The Pumpkin Pie Dessert Hummus blends real pumpkin with warm autumn spices in a format the brand markets for pairing with fruit and graham crackers, as a standalone snack, or as a recipe ingredient. It is the highest-profile item in a portfolio that now spans 11 savory and specialty varieties — including Traditional, Garlic, Red Pepper, Kalamata Olive, Everything Bagel, Sweet Chili, PepperHouse, Meyer Lemon, Dill Pickle, Mango Jalapeño, and Caramelized Onion.

Packaging Overhaul

The redesign introduces a solid gold lid across the collection, cleaner visual hierarchy, and stronger flavor signaling — changes the brand says are engineered to reduce shopper friction at the deli case and improve portfolio navigation. A new under-the-lid feature rotates brand heritage content, ingredient stories, and what the company describes as "playful surprises," a tactic increasingly used in packaged foods to extend engagement beyond the point of sale. Underlying recipes are unchanged.

Steve Alfris, Director of Product Marketing at Boar's Head, framed the dual move as a coherent brand-building effort. "From a cleaner, more intuitive design to under-the-lid storytelling, every detail was developed with purpose to help shoppers discover what makes our hummus unique," he said.

Deli-Channel Context

The timing is strategically sound for a brand whose primary distribution runs through full-service deli departments. The refrigerated hummus category has seen sustained volume growth over the past several years, driven by plant-based protein demand and the shift toward snackification across meal occasions. For deli operators, seasonal LTOs like Pumpkin Pie Dessert Hummus serve a dual function: they generate trial from existing hummus shoppers and attract incremental basket-ring from seasonal-flavor hunters who might otherwise skip the deli case entirely.

Boar's Head has operated in the foodservice and deli channel since its 1905 founding and today fields more than 500 SKUs spanning deli meats, cheeses, condiments, and specialty items. The hummus line represents a relatively newer growth vector — one the company appears committed to building with category-management discipline rather than pure volume promotion. Refreshing packaging across the full collection simultaneously, rather than SKU by SKU, signals an intent to compete on portfolio cohesion against larger refrigerated-dip players in the deli set.

For deli buyers and category managers, the practical upshot is a more planogram-friendly block: the unified gold-lid design should improve shelf-block visibility and reduce the scan time shoppers need to locate specific flavors. That kind of fixture-level legibility has become a standard ask from operators running high-velocity deli programs. Boar's Head Pumpkin Pie Dessert Hummus and the refreshed packaging are rolling out now to select delis nationwide.
