Keebler is leaning into experiential retail for its Halloween 2026 LTO play, bringing back Limited Edition Spookie Fudge Stripes cookies alongside a second-year zoo partnership program that now spans six markets and a rebuilt digital engagement platform. The Spookie Stripes Safari runs September 1 through October 31 at participating zoos and at OpenForMagic.com.
The Activation Model
The in-person component pairs Keebler with six zoo properties — Brookfield Zoo in Chicago, Nashville Zoo at Grassmere, Phoenix Zoo, Kansas City Zoo & Aquarium, Houston Zoo, and Minnesota Zoo — for branded safari-style experiences included with general admission or membership. Activations feature Spookie Fudge Stripes sampling, branded signage, and character appearances by Ernie the Elf. The experiential overlay gives the seasonal SKU a venue-based sampling channel that reaches family daypart traffic outside traditional grocery or mass environments.
The digital side mirrors the in-person format: shoppers scan an on-pack QR code to access an illustrated zoo on OpenForMagic.com, where gameplay centers on spotting striped cookies among striped animals in interactive habitats. The platform debuted in 2025 and returns with new zoo environments and updated content. A grand-prize sweepstakes awards one family of four a VIP weekend at Nashville Zoo, including backstage tours, attraction passes, roundtrip airfare, hotel, and spending money.
Ferrero's Seasonal Merchandising Play
For Ferrero U.S.A., parent company of Keebler, the program fits a broader pattern of using limited-time offerings to drive incremental velocity in the cookie category during high-index seasonal windows. Halloween ranks among the top selling periods for packaged sweet snacks, and pairing a nationally distributed LTO with a multi-market experiential footprint extends brand impressions into non-retail venues where competitive noise is lower.
Gabrielle Young, Brand Manager for Keebler Fudge Stripes & LTOs, described the program as "bigger, better, and built for every family, whether they're tracking stripes at the zoo or searching from home." The agency partner, Allionce Group, is in its second consecutive year executing the zoo tie-ins. CEO and Founding Partner Mark Giovino cited the zoo channel as a "brand-safe destination" that translates packaged goods into real-world family moments — a positioning increasingly valuable as CPG brands look for alternatives to fragmented digital media.
For foodservice and hospitality operators adjacent to zoo venues, the activation signals continued demand for family-occasion traffic around seasonal IP. Zoo concession and café operators at participating locations can expect elevated foot traffic during the September–October run, consistent with the broader trend of consumer packaged goods brands using destination venues as seasonal sampling and LTO launch platforms. The Keebler program also illustrates how legacy cookie brands under large multinational portfolios are investing in below-the-line activation to compete with challenger snack brands gaining shelf space in grocery and convenience channels.
