The LTO
PepsiCo is doubling down on its Mountain Dew x Trolli cross-brand platform with Mountain Dew x Trolli Mango Pineapple Punch, a limited-edition soda rolling into U.S. retail and foodservice channels beginning August 24 and running through October. The SKU marks the second consecutive year the two brands have co-developed a beverage-confection pairing, following last year's Cherry Lemon edition, which the company described as one of the fastest-selling products in the Mountain Dew lineup.
The new flavor — built around mango, pineapple, and a hint of strawberry — is engineered to be consumed alongside Trolli Spicy Crawlers gummi worms, creating a sweet-heat contrast that tracks with the broader spicy-plus-fruit trend reshaping the snack and beverage aisles. Available formats include 12 oz. cans and 20 oz. Regular and Zero Sugar bottles at grocery and convenience accounts; a Regular 20 oz. bottle is also slotting into participating Pizza Hut locations nationwide through the promotional window.
Foodservice & Retail Play
The Pizza Hut placement is the most operationally notable element of the launch for foodservice operators. Mountain Dew maintains a longstanding beverage partnership with Yum Brands' pizza chain, and folding a limited-edition LTO into that distribution network gives PepsiCo a vehicle to drive trial at the counter without adding complexity to Pizza Hut's fountain infrastructure — a 20 oz. bottle format sidesteps any syrup-and-equipment coordination entirely. For Pizza Hut franchisees, it's a low-friction daypart incremental: a beverage upsell with built-in novelty and a defined sell-through deadline that keeps inventory risk contained.
On the retail side, a Walmart.com-exclusive kit bundles a 20 oz. Regular bottle, a 20 oz. Zero Sugar bottle, and a 12 oz. bag of Trolli Spicy Crawlers — positioning the pairing as a single basket ring and leaning into the direct-to-consumer gifting and variety-pack trend that has lifted limited-edition beverage kits across the non-alcohol segment.
Brand & Segment Context
The collab sits inside a wider industry pattern: carbonated soft drink brands are using confectionery crossovers and flavor-forward LTOs to drive incrementality in a mature category. Sweet-and-spicy as a flavor architecture has moved from fringe to mainstream across QSR menus and snack sets, with operators from fast-casual chains to c-store foodservice programs activating the combination in sauces, snacks, and beverages alike. For PepsiCo, whose beverage portfolio generated a portion of the company's nearly $94 billion in net revenue in 2025, Mountain Dew's LTO cadence is a key lever for maintaining velocity at retail and in foodservice accounts.
Michael Smith, VP of Marketing for Mountain Dew at PepsiCo Beverages U.S., framed the second-year continuation as demand-driven: "This year, we're taking that idea even further with a sweet-and-spicy flavor twist that taps into a growing consumer trend while delivering the bold, one-of-a-kind experience fans expect from both brands." Chad Womack, Marketing Director at Trolli, pointed to the Spicy Crawlers SKU specifically as the anchor for the pairing strategy, noting the collaboration gives shoppers a new consumption occasion for an existing product.
