Portfolio Expansion

Nutrabolt, the Austin-based active health and wellness company behind C4, XTEND, Cellucor, and Bloom, is moving into the sparkling protein ready-to-drink segment with the July 30 debut of C4 Sparkling Protein — a caffeine-free, zero-sugar beverage delivering 20 grams of protein and five essential vitamins and minerals per can. The launch marks a deliberate push beyond the energy drink daypart that built C4 into one of the fastest-growing brands in U.S. functional beverages.

Format & Distribution

The SKU arrives at $27.99 and is available immediately at Walmart and online at cellucor.com, with Amazon distribution pending. Three flavors are in rotation: Strawberry Watermelon, Lemon Lime Fizz, and Cherry Vanilla, the last of which is a Walmart exclusive — a retailer-specific strategy that reflects standard category management practice for high-velocity beverage launches seeking premium shelf placement. Nutrabolt's existing retail footprint, which spans Walmart, Target, Kroger, Publix, 7-Eleven, Wawa, GNC, and The Vitamin Shoppe across more than 125 countries, gives the brand a proven pathway to accelerate velocity once the broader rollout opens.

Why RTD Protein, Why Now

The timing reflects accelerating operator and retailer interest in the functional RTD protein segment. Clear and sparkling protein drinks have struggled historically with texture and flavor fidelity — a point Emily Hoyle, Senior Vice President of Marketing at Nutrabolt, addressed directly: "Sparkling and clear protein drinks have a reputation for tasting flat or leaving behind a chalky mouthfeel, and we knew that wasn't good enough for C4." The brand is positioning its flavor development capabilities — honed across years of pre-workout and energy SKU iteration — as a differentiator in a category where consumer trial is frequently blocked by poor sensory experience.

For foodservice and convenience channel buyers, the zero-caffeine, any-daypart positioning is the operative detail. Unlike C4's core energy lineup, which competes in the morning and afternoon caffeine occasion, Sparkling Protein is designed for post-workout recovery, between-meal snacking, and evening consumption — broadening the brand's relevance across more points of sale and cooler sets. The C4 energy platform has already demonstrated strong convenience and club channel velocity; extending into a complementary protein occasion could support incremental facings without cannibalizing the core energy business.

The broader backdrop is favorable. RTD protein has been one of the more durable growth vectors in the functional beverage and sports nutrition segment, driven by consumers seeking convenient, high-protein formats that don't require preparation. Operator and retail buyers in convenience, club, and natural specialty have expanded cooler real estate for the category over the past 18 months, and a sparkling, clear format from a brand with C4's recognition could command meaningful velocity relative to lesser-known entrants.

Nutrabolt has not disclosed production volume targets or projected AUV contribution for the Sparkling Protein line. The company's distribution infrastructure, direct-to-consumer channel at cellucor.com, and Walmart anchor suggest an aggressive near-term push to establish baseline velocity before a broader retail expansion.
