Chef Damon Cho's Osen Hospitality Group will plant two flags inside OCVIBE, the 100-acre, $5 billion mixed-use district taking shape around Honda Center in Anaheim — making it the first culinary operator in the project to hold positions both inside the development's marquee market hall and as a standalone full-service restaurant.
Osen Urban Table will anchor a site in OCVIBE's Urban Park, designed to run lunch through dinner in a casual, approachable format rooted in the izakaya DNA of Cho's Silver Lake flagship. Osen Handroll, a fast-casual handroll bar concept, will occupy space inside Katella Commons, OCVIBE's 50,000-square-foot, two-story market hall. Both concepts are expected to open in 2027 alongside the broader district rollout.
Two Formats, One Operator
The dual-concept strategy reflects a broader playbook emerging in large-scale mixed-use hospitality: operators securing complementary daypart coverage across a single development to maximize foot traffic conversion — from the grab-and-go pre-event crowd to longer-dwell dinner occasions. Osen Handroll targets the quick-bite, high-energy occasion ahead of games and performances at the district's 5,000-capacity concert hall. Osen Urban Table is positioned for the seated, multi-course experience that drives higher per-guest check averages and repeat visits.
Cho, a Le Cordon Bleu graduate who trained at Nobu, Four Seasons, and Tao before opening Izakaya Osen in Silver Lake in 2017 and a second location in Irvine in 2022, said the OCVIBE opportunity allows Osen to extend its approach to Japanese dining across two distinct service formats. "It gives us the opportunity to share our approach to Japanese dining in two different ways while becoming part of a new community in Orange County," Cho said.
Culinary Tenant Lineup Takes Shape
Osen joins a deepening roster of culinary partners committed to OCVIBE's food-and-beverage program. Katella Commons tenants already announced include Amiga Amore, Burritos La Palma, Evil Cooks, Manaao Thai Comfort Food, MFK | Modern Filipino Kitchen, Gelato Paradiso, and Chef Zach Scherer's OC Pizza Cult and Wanderfowl. Beyond the market hall, Chef Roy Choi is set to open a Best Friend restaurant as part of the district's standalone restaurant collection.
Anthony Olheiser, Senior Vice President of Hospitality at OCVIBE, framed the Osen signing as emblematic of the development's broader curatorial approach — pairing nationally recognized culinary talent with operators rooted in Southern California's independent dining culture. For operators evaluating entertainment-district foodservice plays, OCVIBE's sheer scale — 35-plus planned dining concepts, three entertainment venues, and more than 2,000 residences at full build-out in 2033 — represents one of the most concentrated new foodservice opportunity sets in the Western U.S.
The district's phased opening begins in March 2027 with the concert hall, followed by Katella Commons and the first restaurant openings toward year-end. For operators and franchise development professionals tracking emerging venue-based foodservice markets, the OCVIBE tenant mix signals continued demand for chef-driven, fast-casual and full-service hybrids in high-density, mixed-use environments — a format that has outperformed traditional mall food courts in traffic retention and per-visit spend across comparable developments nationwide.
