PepsiCo (NASDAQ: PEP) has renewed its beverage partnership with KFC across eight international markets — Australia, India, the UK, Spain, Germany, France, the Netherlands, and Belgium — extending a decades-long arrangement that already spans KFC locations throughout the Middle East, broader Europe, Asia-Pacific, and Latin America. The renewal keeps PepsiCo brands as the exclusive pour at those locations while adding a culinary co-development layer that the companies say will help KFC sharpen its appeal among Gen Z diners.

Portfolio & LTO Strategy

The retained pouring-rights lineup includes Pepsi Zero Sugar, Pepsi MAX, Pepsi MAX Cherry, Lipton Peach Iced Tea, and 7UP, with market-by-market variation depending on local taste profiles and regulatory conditions. The more operationally notable component is the culinary integration: Doritos Loaded — KFC's crispy chicken tenders served with Doritos corn tortilla chips and Mexican-inspired toppings — is now available in select markets as an exclusive LTO. The item signals a broadening of what QSR pouring-rights agreements can deliver; rather than a straight beverage exclusivity contract, this deal layers in a snack-brand co-marketing play that uses PepsiCo's Frito-Lay division as a menu-traffic driver.

That kind of cross-category bundling is increasingly common in large-scale foodservice partnerships, where suppliers compete not just on beverage portfolio breadth but on their ability to deliver turnkey LTOs that move the traffic needle. For KFC's international franchisees, an exclusive, supplier-funded menu innovation can support check growth without requiring significant kitchen re-engineering — a meaningful unit-economics consideration for operators navigating elevated food and labor costs across European and Asia-Pacific markets.

Beverages as a Daypart Play

Eugene Willemsen, CEO of International Beverages at PepsiCo, framed the renewal as a cultural-velocity play. "As consumer tastes continue to evolve, PepsiCo is moving at the speed of culture, bringing new capabilities and category-leading innovation, to help KFC build a more modern, distinctive, and relevant beverage business around the world," he said. The language points to a specific competitive pressure: QSR chains globally are losing beverage daypart share to specialist formats — bubble tea concepts, premium cold-brew bars, and functional-drink retailers — and large beverage suppliers are repositioning themselves as innovation partners rather than commodity pour providers.

PepsiCo specifically cited crafted, functional, and energy beverage trends as areas where it expects to support KFC's menu evolution. That aligns with broader segment dynamics: energy and functional beverages are among the fastest-growing beverage subcategories in foodservice globally, and operators that can offer credible options in those segments gain a tool to extend afternoon and evening dayparts beyond the core meal occasion. For KFC, which skews toward lunch and dinner, beverage-led daypart expansion could meaningfully lift average transaction frequency across its international estate.

The competitive context matters here. Rival QSR giants have leaned heavily into proprietary beverage programs — most notably the drink-customization trend popularized in the U.S. — and KFC's international operators will be watching whether PepsiCo's innovation pipeline can deliver comparable traffic lift without the capital expenditure of a fully built-out beverage bar. How that plays out will carry implications for QSR beverage strategy broadly and for international franchise development as KFC continues to add units across emerging markets.

Financial terms of the renewal were not disclosed.
