The Launch

Pilgrim's is entering the licensed-flavor frozen chicken set with two new SKUs — Pilgrim's® FLAMIN' HOT® Chicken Tenders and Pilgrim's® FLAMIN' HOT® Chicken Bites — rolling out at select retailers nationwide beginning this month. The products mark the first time the FLAMIN' HOT® flavor platform, owned by Frito-Lay North America and used under license, has appeared in frozen chicken, extending a snack-rooted flavor brand into the center-store protein case.

Product and Positioning

Both items are made with all-white-meat chicken raised with no antibiotics ever, carry no artificial colors or flavors, and are engineered for air-fryer preparation — tenders in roughly 15 minutes, bites in about 11. The tenders deliver 20 grams of protein per serving; the bites deliver 16 grams. That antibiotic-free, clean-label profile positions the line above commodity frozen chicken strips and squarely in the better-for-you value-added segment, where processors have increasingly competed on ingredient credentials as much as on price.

Brad White, Head of Marketing at Pilgrim's, framed the move as a brand-building play: "Chicken is the most versatile protein there is, which makes it the perfect home for bold flavor. We're building Pilgrim's to be a brand that makes chicken more exciting." Janelle Rowe, Senior Vice President of Foodservice at PepsiCo Away from Home, described the collaboration as a way to bring FLAMIN' HOT® into a new category and widen consumer touchpoints for the flavor platform.

Market Context

The frozen chicken category has seen sustained demand for value-added, flavor-forward formats as consumers increasingly look to recreate restaurant-quality experiences at home. Spicy and heat-forward flavor profiles have been among the strongest-performing LTO and permanent-menu drivers across both foodservice and retail for the past several years, with operators from QSR chains to fast-casual concepts running FLAMIN' HOT® licensed menu items to capitalize on the brand's cultural recognition. Pilgrim's — a global protein processor with more than 62,000 employees operating facilities across 14 U.S. states, Puerto Rico, Mexico, the U.K., Ireland, and continental Europe — is leveraging that foodservice momentum to build retail pull-through in the frozen aisle.

The air-fryer readiness specification is a deliberate convenience signal. Air-fryer penetration in U.S. households has climbed steadily, and frozen chicken brands that call out appliance-specific prep times have used the feature to differentiate from traditional oven-cook formats. For supply-chain and protein-category buyers, the antibiotic-free sourcing claim also aligns with retailer sustainability and transparency mandates that have become standard in the premium frozen set.

The FLAMIN' HOT® licensing arrangement with Frito-Lay reflects a broader trend of snack flavor platforms crossing into adjacent food categories — a strategy that lets both parties reach new consumption occasions without significant incremental marketing spend. PepsiCo reported nearly $94 billion in net revenue in 2025, with FLAMIN' HOT® among its high-visibility flavor franchises spanning Cheetos, Lay's, and other Frito-Lay brands.

Pilgrim's has not disclosed suggested retail pricing, specific retailer nameplates, or a projected distribution footprint beyond "select retailers nationwide."
