The Numbers
Restaurant Brands International (NYSE: QSR) posted global comparable sales of 3.8% for the third quarter ended September 30, 2026, on consolidated system-wide sales of $12.97 billion — a 6.2% increase year-over-year on a constant-currency basis. Total reported revenues reached $2.53 billion, up from $2.45 billion in the prior-year period. Adjusted Operating Income (AOI) climbed to $737 million from $702 million, representing 6.7% organic AOI growth. Adjusted diluted EPS came in at $1.10, a 6.9% nominal increase versus $1.03 a year ago. Net leverage improved to 4.0x from 4.4x, and RBI returned $1.3 billion to shareholders year-to-date through dividends and share repurchases.
Brand Scorecard
Burger King US was the clear standout, posting 8.4% comp sales and 7.6% system-wide sales growth on a base of 6,979 domestic units. Segment AOI rose to $136 million from $123 million, driven entirely by comp-sales momentum. The brand's multi-year "Reclaim the Flame" refranchising and remodel program continues to progress — RBI has deployed $198 million of up to $550 million planned toward "Royal Reset" capital investments through quarter-end. Unit count in the home market remains in modest decline at negative 0.9% net restaurant growth as the brand prunes underperformers ahead of refranchising the former Carrols Restaurant Group portfolio. Tim Hortons posted 1.5% comp sales and 2.0% system-wide sales growth across 4,579 units; tariff refunds in the supply chain bolstered segment AOI to $317 million. Firehouse Subs delivered 7.8% net restaurant growth to 1,509 locations and 2.0% U.S. comp sales, its AOI up to $16 million. Popeyes remained the portfolio's weak link, with U.S. comp sales negative 2.2% for a second consecutive quarter and segment AOI falling to $58 million from $63 million, pressured by declining advertising fund contributions.
International Momentum
The International segment generated 9.0% system-wide sales growth — the fastest of any segment — and 3.9% comp sales across 16,792 restaurants, with royalty revenues jumping to $266 million from $245 million. The resumption of franchise royalties from the Burger King China joint venture, established in January 2026 after RBI sold a controlling stake to CPE for $350 million in primary capital, was a material contributor. RBI now accounts for its remaining 17% BK China equity interest under the equity method, shifting the asset to an asset-light royalty-stream structure consistent with its broader franchisor model. International net restaurant growth held at 5.6% — well ahead of the consolidated 3.0% — underscoring where new unit development is accelerating relative to domestic markets.
Outlook and Guidance
RBI reaffirmed full-year guidance, including Segment G&A (excluding the Restaurant Holdings transitional segment) of $600 million to $620 million, Adjusted Interest Expense of $500 million to $520 million, and total capex and cash inducements of roughly $400 million. The company maintained its long-term algorithm of 3%-plus comparable sales and 8%-plus organic AOI growth through 2028, with a target of 5%-plus net restaurant growth toward the end of that window. The board declared a Q4 2026 dividend of $0.65 per share and partnership unit, payable January 5, 2027. For franchisee operators tracking system-wide development activity, the continued refranchising of Carrols Burger King locations and the search for new investors in PLK China and Firehouse Subs Brazil remain the primary near-term portfolio reshaping catalysts.
