The California Milk Advisory Board (CMAB) has named 15 companies to its 2026 Real California Milk Excelerator, the eighth annual cohort of the dairy innovation accelerator run in partnership with VentureFuel. Program alumni have collectively generated nearly $60 million in brand sales since 2021, and the 2026 class is the first to be formally split into two parallel tracks — one for growth-stage operators, one for earlier-stage concepts — each carrying access to mentorship, programming, and development stipends.

The Cohort

The growth-stage track fields eight companies whose products skew toward the functional and globally influenced formats gaining shelf velocity in specialty and conventional dairy cases. Highlights include Maazah, an Afghan-style yogurt dip brand targeting mainstream placement; Secret Creamery, a super-premium ice cream line built around AAPI flavors with a four-strain probiotic mix; and Yah Yah Yah, a ready-to-drink iced latte drawing on Middle Eastern coffee tradition and formulated with 5 grams of prebiotic fiber. Tulsi Foods is pushing clean-label paneer from the ethnic aisle into the mainstream dairy case, while Life Raft Treats is leveraging novelty positioning with ice cream bars shaped like fried chicken drumsticks — a format calculated to drive earned media and impulse velocity in freezer doors. RoseBud Ice Cream is targeting convenience-driven consumption with soft-serve delivered in a spill-proof pouch.

The seven-brand incubator track represents earlier-stage bets on labneh, freeze-dried cheesecake, cottage-cheese snacks, frozen mac and cheese, protein chai RTD, cultured dairy ice cream, and a ready-to-drink latte positioned for healthcare workers — a daypart and channel targeting play that signals where some founders see captive, recurring foodservice-adjacent demand.

Prize Structure and Timeline

The program culminates in December at a pitch event in San Luis Obispo, Calif., where the eight growth-stage companies will present to a live judging panel. Four finalists will each receive $30,000 in marketing support and will be tracked over the following 12 months for in-market performance. A $100,000 grand prize will be awarded in 2027 based on those results. The December event will also reveal the $100,000 winner from the 2025 Excelerator finalist group.

Bob Carroll, CEO of the CMAB, framed the program's expansion as a direct response to a tighter CPG environment. "After eight years, we're doubling down on commercialization, helping companies using the Real California Milk seal to scale their businesses, strengthen their path to market and navigate an increasingly challenging CPG environment," Carroll said. Fred Schonenberg, Founder and CEO of VentureFuel, described the 2026 structure as a "Commercialization Engine for Value-Added Dairy Innovation" aimed at delivering measurable pathways to retail shelf and sustained consumer demand.

The cohort composition tracks closely with Innova Market Insights' 2026 dairy trend forecast, which flagged functionality, gut health, protein density, convenience packaging, and occasion-driven formats as the primary levers of dairy category growth. For foodservice operators and retail buyers, the pipeline signals continued pressure to expand dairy adjacencies — from probiotic RTDs at the beverage station to globally inspired dairy dips in appetizer and sauce programs — as better-for-you and globally flavored formats reshape the dairy case and accelerator-bred brands increasingly move from specialty to chain distribution.
