Food guide TIPSTER will stage its second NYC Bakery Run on October 25, routing 100 lottery-selected participants through 13.1 miles and ten bakery stops — capping the course with a seated pastry service inside three-Michelin-star Eleven Madison Park before the restaurant opens for regular lunch.
The event drew more than 17,000 lottery entries for 100 spots at its 2025 debut, a demand ratio that underscores how aggressively experiential food concepts compete for consumer attention in New York's saturated dining market. Entry remains free; runners move in three pace groups rather than racing, with each stop delivering a single bite or small pastry course before the group continues.
The Route
The 2026 lineup includes Radio Bakery, La Cabra, Librae Bakery, From Lucie, L'Appartement 4F, Hani's Bakery, Elbow Bread, and Saison Bakery. The most closely watched addition is Altbau Bakery, the New York project from Chad Robertson, cofounder of San Francisco's Tartine — a name that carries significant weight across the artisan-bread segment. Robertson's involvement signals the event's reach into the upper tier of the independent bakery world, where a single opening can shift consumer traffic patterns across a neighborhood.
At Eleven Madison Park, runners will be escorted into the dining room for a dedicated pastry course created by the restaurant's pastry team. Dominique Roy, Chef de Cuisine at Eleven Madison Park, framed the stop as a channel to present the kitchen's work outside the tasting-menu format — a rare off-premise-style activation for a restaurant that does not operate in takeout or delivery channels.
Operator Significance
For independent bakery operators, the NYC Bakery Run functions as a high-credibility marketing vehicle at near-zero cost. Participating concepts — including Librae Bakery, whose owner Dona Murad-Gerschel cited the route as a showcase for distinct baking approaches — receive exposure to a self-selected audience of food-engaged consumers without the overhead of a pop-up or catering engagement.
TIPSTER founder Simon Evers has positioned the event around a structural shift in how consumers assign cultural value to foodservice: enthusiasm that once concentrated around fine dining has migrated to bakeries, pizza counters, and specialty cafés. The lottery mechanic, which manufactures scarcity without a ticket price, reinforces that positioning and generates a press cycle well beyond the 100 participants on route.
The dynamic mirrors tactics used by larger operators in the limited-time offer and experiential marketing space, where manufactured exclusivity drives organic reach. For independent operators, events like this represent one of the few scalable awareness tools available outside paid digital channels, a subject covered in recent foodservice trend reporting.
Lottery sign-ups close October 14 at 11:59 p.m. ET. Winners are notified October 15.
