Triumph Higher Education Group closed its acquisition of the Culinary Institute of Barcelona (CIB) on July 17, 2026, adding the Spain-based institution to a portfolio that already includes Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts — the largest culinary school brand in the United States by IPEDS enrollment — and the Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts in Vancouver, British Columbia. Financial terms were not disclosed.
The Network Numbers
The three-school platform will now enroll more than 8,000 students annually and draws on an alumni base exceeding 25,000, supported by more than 150 faculty and chef instructors across North America and Europe. Founded in 2017, CIB has trained more than 1,300 students from more than 100 nationalities through diploma and specialization programs covering haute cuisine, pastry arts, kitchen leadership, and restaurant management. The Barcelona campus maintains internship partnerships with more than 200 restaurants internationally and received nominations for Europe's Best Culinary Training Institution at the World Culinary Awards in both 2025 and 2026.
For Triumph, the deal extends its geographic footprint into the European culinary education market at a moment when Spain's gastronomy and culinary-tourism sectors are generating sustained demand for trained professionals and chef-entrepreneurs. Barcelona's standing as a global culinary destination makes CIB a strategically positioned asset for operator-track students who intend to enter the European hospitality and foodservice industry.
Curriculum and Student Pathways
CIB's proprietary pedagogy centers on creativity, problem-solving, and entrepreneurship — a significant majority of its alumni go on to launch independent food businesses. Triumph said the methodology aligns with Escoffier's business-integrated culinary curriculum and will reinforce the commercial emphasis across the combined network. CIB will continue operating from its central Barcelona campus with no disruption to current programs or faculty.
The combined organization plans to introduce study-abroad experiences in Spain, expanded online learning, and shared access to a cross-border faculty network. Those pathways matter to foodservice and hospitality operators downstream: culinary schools that produce graduates fluent in both European technique and business fundamentals address a talent pipeline that multi-unit operators and independent restaurateurs alike have flagged as a persistent gap.
"CIB's approach to culinary education, built on creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship, is a natural fit with the Triumph family and with Escoffier's blend of professional culinary arts and contemporary business training," said Jack Larson, chairman, CEO and president of Triumph Higher Education Group. Josep Gala Micó, co-founder and president of CIB, said the acquisition gives the Barcelona school a platform to carry its chef-entrepreneur mission to a global stage while preserving the methodology and faculty identity that define it.
What It Means for Operators
For commercial foodservice operators sourcing culinary talent, Triumph's expanding network represents a broadening supply channel. Escoffier's U.S. scale already makes it a notable feeder for independent and multi-unit restaurant concepts; the addition of a European campus with deep internship ties to 200-plus restaurant partners extends that reach into markets where labor costs and skills shortages have intensified pressure on kitchen staffing. Triumph also operates Gecko Hospitality, a recruitment arm, meaning the group can move talent from education into placement — a vertically integrated model that distinguishes it from single-campus culinary schools.
The acquisition signals continued consolidation in professional culinary education, a segment that has seen growing interest from investors and education groups tracking foodservice workforce demand. Operators and foodservice industry stakeholders watching the talent pipeline should note that cross-border academic platforms are becoming an increasingly relevant factor in how the next generation of kitchen leadership is trained and deployed.
