Category Expansion Play

TRUBAR, the female-founded better-for-you snack brand now stocked in more than 18,000 retail doors, is stepping outside its protein bar stronghold with the launch of TRUBAR Drizzle — a line of dessert-inspired mini rice cakes rolling out exclusively at Walmart. The move marks the brand's first significant product innovation beyond the bar format and signals an intent to compete across multiple snacking occasions rather than anchor exclusively to the protein bar set.

Each 1 oz. serving delivers 5g of protein, 3g of fiber and 130 calories. The lineup is 100% plant-based and formulated without seed oils, gluten, dairy or sugar alcohols — a clean-label profile consistent with TRUBAR's existing bar portfolio. Three SKUs anchor the launch: Hey Shorty, It's Your Birthday Cake; S'more to Love; and Cinnamon Roll With It. Retail pricing starts at approximately $4.74 for a 4 oz. bag and $11.99 for a 10-count variety pack of individually portioned 1 oz. bags.

Filling a Functional Gap

TRUBAR is positioning Drizzle against the conventional mini rice cake segment, which has historically competed on low-calorie and low-cost appeal with minimal protein content. By layering functional nutrition — specifically the 5g protein and 3g fiber per serving — onto a familiar light-crunch format, the brand is making a play for the growing cohort of health-conscious snackers who view rice cakes as a permissible base but want more macronutrient density than the legacy category delivers. That angle tracks with broader better-for-you snack trends driving growth across convenience and grocery channels, where protein-forward positioning has become a primary shelf-set driver.

"With Drizzle, we saw an opportunity to take everything consumers already love about mini rice cakes and give it the TRUBAR treatment, delivering a snack that offers both indulgence and meaningful nutritional benefits," said Erica Groussman, Founder and CEO of TRUBAR. "This is a big moment for us because it's our first step beyond bars, and we're just getting started."

Retail Footprint and Outlook

The Walmart exclusive gives TRUBAR immediate mass-market scale for its format debut — a meaningful distribution win for a brand that built its retail base through natural and premium channels including Costco, Whole Foods, Albertsons and Erewhon before crossing into conventional grocery. For foodservice-adjacent operators and contract snack buyers tracking the better-for-you segment, the Drizzle launch illustrates how emerging functional-snack brands are extending their distribution logic: establish credibility in specialty retail, then use a hero SKU to breach mass-market shelving.

The rice cake category entry also opens new daypart and channel conversations for TRUBAR. Individual 1 oz. portions are a natural fit for vending, micro-market and noncommercial foodservice environments where per-serving calorie counts and clean-label claims increasingly influence product selection. As operators and group purchasing organizations refresh better-for-you snack programs, portable, portion-controlled formats with protein claims are drawing stronger consideration from noncommercial and hospitality buyers alike. TRUBAR's expansion into rice cakes suggests the brand is at minimum aware of those adjacencies, even if the current launch is retail-first.
