Certified organic ready-to-eat brand Urban Remedy is leveraging National Food Is Medicine Day on September 14 as a commercial launchpad, pushing three functional food and beverage products into national retail distribution across more than 800 doors — including Whole Foods Market, Andronico's, Raley's, Ralph's, and King Soopers.

The Product Slate

The newest addition is the UR Calmer Wellness Shot, a refrigerated daily shot combining 80 mg of magnesium bisglycinate and 50 mg of L-theanine with cold-pressed blood orange, pineapple, and lemon. The format plays directly into the functional-beverage daypart that has outpaced conventional juice in retail foodservice for the past three years, as operators and grocers alike stock grab-and-go cases with condition-specific shots.

Also expanding nationally is the Blissful Belly Bowl — previously a West Coast offering — built around kale, quinoa, chickpeas, vegan cashew cheese, miso dressing, and two fermented kraut varieties for naturally occurring probiotic content. East Coast distribution marks the brand's most significant geographic push for its fresh meal segment, where short shelf life and cold-chain logistics have historically limited reach for independent better-for-you operators.

Rounding out the slate is the Matcha Energy Bar, a long-standing California SKU now moving into a nationwide fall rollout. The bar delivers 9 g of protein, 3 g of fiber, and 6 g of sugar per serving, using cacao butter, matcha, coconut, cashews, almonds, and seeds. It is positioned as a Paleo-friendly meal-replacement option — a format that competes in the same retail fixture as established protein-bar brands but tilts toward minimally processed, plant-forward claims increasingly demanded by retail buyers.

Retail Footprint and Channel Context

Urban Remedy's current 800-plus retail footprint spans natural and conventional grocery, with cold-pressed juices and wellness shots in Ralph's and King Soopers and Protein Collagen shakes at Erewhon — a distribution mix that straddles the premium independents and conventional mass-market channels. That dual-channel presence is a deliberate growth lever: natural grocery provides brand credibility while conventional banners supply volume.

The functional-food and better-for-you ready-to-eat segment has drawn sustained retail buyer interest as operators seek higher-margin, health-oriented grab-and-go sets. In the broader foodservice supply chain, plant-forward, minimally processed RTEs with clean-label credentials command premium shelf placement and, increasingly, premium price points that support retailer category margins. Urban Remedy also operates grab-and-go kiosks stocked with more than 40 SKUs, giving it a hybrid retail-foodservice model less common among independent organic brands.

Neka Pasquale, Founder and Chief Product Officer of Urban Remedy, framed the national push as demand-driven: the brand is responding to direct consumer requests for wider availability rather than a speculative expansion. For retail buyers and foodservice distributors evaluating the better-for-you RTÉ set, the three-SKU rollout represents an incremental range extension rather than a wholesale category pivot — but the East Coast bowl launch in particular tests whether Urban Remedy's cold-chain infrastructure can support fresh meal distribution at national scale.

The certified B Corporation status adds a supply-chain accountability layer that resonates with retail partners under ESG scrutiny, and aligns with the growing operator interest in sourcing from suppliers with verifiable environmental and social standards. Buyers tracking the functional beverage and wellness shot category or the organic ready-to-eat meal segment will want to monitor Urban Remedy's velocity data as the fall national rollout progresses.
