The Growth Numbers
Amylu Foods, the Chicago-based premium chicken sausage and breakfast meat brand, is closing 2026 with its fastest retail expansion on record. Dollar sales are up 107% year over year through mid-July, according to SPINS Satori total U.S. MULO data, and the brand's points of distribution are projected to reach 129,998 by year-end — a nearly 50% increase from 87,547 in 2025. The gains position Amylu among the fastest-scaling better-for-you protein brands in the refrigerated and frozen meat aisles.
The category performance reinforces the momentum: Amylu currently holds the #1 dollar-growth ranking in chicken sausage, capturing nearly half of the segment's total category growth. Within the breakfast set, the brand ranks #1 in dollar growth for refrigerated chicken breakfast sausage and #2 across the entire breakfast sausage and meats category — a competitive positioning that increasingly puts it in direct conversation with legacy pork-centric breakfast brands.
Target Drives the Expansion
The single largest catalyst for the distribution jump is a September 2026 expansion at Target, where 11 Amylu products are receiving expanded or new shelf placement — eight existing SKUs growing their in-store footprint and three new product launches debuting at the retailer. Two of the three new items target the breakfast and grab-and-go daypart: refrigerated Breakfast Time Patties, for which Target is the exclusive launch retail partner, and Maple Breakfast Bites in a new individually portioned refrigerated grab-and-go format.
"Consumers are rethinking where and how they incorporate protein throughout the day, creating opportunities well beyond traditional lunch and dinner occasions," said Ashlee Leo, VP of Marketing at Amylu Foods. The new formats are a calculated play on the multi-daypart protein trend, which has accelerated as foodservice and retail operators alike chase incremental purchase occasions beyond the dinner plate.
Category Tailwinds and Operator Relevance
Amylu's timing aligns with measurable demand shifts across the food and beverage landscape. Consumer focus on protein density, satiety, and nutrient-forward eating has intensified, partly fueled by broader cultural interest tied to GLP-1 medication adoption — a backdrop that has pushed better-for-you, high-protein SKUs from specialty positioning into mainstream retail sets. Fully cooked, antibiotic-free chicken products with clean ingredient decks are increasingly finding placement in premium grocery and club channels, a trend relevant to foodservice operators sourcing branded proteins for retail-ready meal programs and commissary operations.
For multi-unit operators and contract foodservice buyers evaluating chicken sausage and breakfast protein suppliers, Amylu's scale trajectory — crossing 130,000 retail PODs — signals improving supply chain depth and manufacturing capacity. The brand's fully cooked format also reduces prep labor, a persistent pressure point across foodservice segments from fast casual to healthcare dining. Distribution at a major mass retailer like Target additionally provides consumer brand recognition that can ease adoption in non-commercial and retail foodservice environments.
With dollar sales more than doubling and new breakfast innovations entering their first full retail cycle, Amylu Foods enters Q4 2026 as one of the more closely watched growth stories in the refrigerated protein set.
