Beard Papa's is leaning into gaming culture to drive daypart traffic and incremental check this fall, launching a month-long limited-time collaboration with ATLUS to mark the 30th anniversary of the Persona RPG franchise. The promotion runs September 4 through October 4, 2026, at participating U.S. locations across the chain's domestic footprint, part of a 585-unit global network.
The LTO Lineup
The collaboration produced five cream puff SKUs, each mapped to a title in the Persona franchise catalog — Original (Revelations: Persona), Matcha (Persona 2 Innocent Sins), Ube S'mores (Persona 3 Reload), Cookies & Cream (Persona 4 Golden), and Double Berry (Persona 5 Royal). Flavors are available individually or bundled into two collectible gift sets. The 4-Pack Gift Set includes a chibi sticker sheet and an in-game code card for Persona5: The Phantom X; the 6-Pack Gift Set swaps the sticker sheet for a blind-packed acrylic standee with one of eight possible designs, along with its own in-game code.
The bundled gift sets are a clear attempt to lift average check and create scarcity-driven repeat visits — a mechanic that has proven effective for specialty dessert operators competing against broader QSR and fast-casual snack occasions. Blind-pack collectibles in particular have driven basket size at several Asian-heritage dessert and beverage concepts in recent years, echoing tactics used in the bubble tea and mochi ice cream segments.
In-Store and Merch Strategy
Beyond the menu, Beard Papa's is deploying full store-level creative — Persona-themed digital menu boards, bakery case graphics, posters, and point-of-purchase artwork at participating units. The Cerritos and Little Tokyo locations will feature large-format anniversary murals positioned as fan photo opportunities, a low-cost earned-media play increasingly common among specialty dessert brands targeting younger, social-media-active consumers.
A merchandise line — ceramic mug, premium T-shirt, zip hoodie, and eco tote bag — is available online, with physical display samples at participating stores. Extending the brand into soft goods is consistent with how experiential dessert operators are broadening revenue streams beyond the four walls, though merchandise typically contributes a modest share of total revenue for concepts at Beard Papa's scale.
"Every flavor, every collectible, and every piece of merchandise was designed to celebrate one of gaming's most beloved franchises while giving fans a fun new way to experience Beard Papa's," said Mark Nathan, Marketing Director for Beard Papa's USA.
The ATLUS partnership — developed with original artwork from ATLUS' creative team — gives Beard Papa's access to a fan base that skews millennial and Gen Z, demographics that index highly for specialty dessert spending. The Persona franchise has sold over 30 million units worldwide, according to ATLUS, providing meaningful brand equity for the crossover. For operators tracking the intersection of entertainment licensing and foodservice LTO strategy, the collaboration illustrates how dessert-focused concepts can compete for occasion share without broad menu overhauls.
Specialty dessert remains a fragmented but growing segment within U.S. foodservice, with Japanese-heritage concepts — from mochi donuts to taiyaki — continuing to expand their unit counts in urban and suburban markets alike. For Beard Papa's, gaming collaborations represent a repeatable promotional framework that sidesteps direct head-to-head competition on price with larger QSR chains. Operators and franchise development observers will be watching whether the Persona activation produces measurable comp-sales lift ahead of any future area development announcements.
