Retail Expansion
Chocolove is extending its Walmart shelf presence this month with two new nut-and-sea-salt bars: Pistachios & Sea Salt in Milk Chocolate and Walnuts & Sea Salt in Dark Chocolate. The additions bring the Boulder, Colo.-based brand's Walmart SKU count to four, joining existing offerings in Hawaiian Sea Salt in Strong Dark Chocolate and Almonds & Sea Salt in Dark Chocolate. All four bars will roll out in updated packaging that the brand describes as a visual refresh while keeping formulations intact.
The sweet-and-salty flavor profile has become one of the more durable trends in the premium confectionery segment, with roasted nuts and finishing salt serving as the combination that has consistently driven velocity in better-for-you snack sets at mass retail. Chocolove's move to add pistachio — a nut that has seen significant consumer demand growth across snack categories in recent years — signals a deliberate play for shelf relevance in a competitive confectionery aisle. The walnut SKU targets a slightly more sophisticated dark-chocolate consumer seeking a less-sweet, earthier bar.
Trade Incentive Play
Alongside the product launch, Chocolove is partnering with Ibotta to offer cash-back incentives on qualifying purchases at Walmart and other supported retailers. The move is a familiar demand-generation tactic for emerging and mid-tier branded confectionery — reducing consumer price friction at point of sale without requiring a direct reduction in shelf price, which helps protect retailer margin discussions. For Chocolove, the Ibotta integration extends the promotional reach beyond Walmart's own ecosystem.
Sara Famulari, VP of Marketing at Chocolove, cited the textural profile as a key differentiator: the pistachio bar delivers a "delicate crunch" in milk chocolate, while the walnut bar pairs earthy notes with dark chocolate's bitterness. From a product positioning standpoint, both bars lean into the better-for-you attributes Chocolove leads with across its portfolio — Rainforest Alliance Certified cocoa, Non-GMO Project Verified status, no artificial preservatives, and traceable cocoa bean sourcing. Those credentials are increasingly table stakes for premium confectionery brands seeking or defending space in the natural and specialty sets, but carry meaningful differentiation in the mass channel where Chocolove is competing against a broader tier of conventional product.
Founded in Boulder in 1995, Chocolove operates a portfolio of roughly 50 SKUs spanning bars, cups, bites, and seasonal formats. The Walmart expansion reflects a broader industry pattern in which regional and specialty confectionery brands with established natural-channel roots use mass-retail listings to scale volume without sacrificing brand equity — provided the packaging and positioning hold. The updated packaging refresh across the Walmart lineup suggests Chocolove is treating the mass channel as a sustained growth priority rather than an opportunistic placement. For buyers and category managers tracking the better-for-you snack corridor, the four-SKU Chocolove block now occupies a distinct sweet-salty-premium niche that few comparable brands have fully developed at this price tier in mass retail.
