The Partnership

Hard Rock Cafe and Coca-Cola have launched Hard Rock Rising, a multi-round music competition operating across 64 Cafe locations in 34 countries — one of the brand's most geographically expansive promotional activations in recent memory. The program targets singer-songwriters, bands, and DJs at the emerging-artist level, using the Cafe network as a live-performance distribution channel while layering in a limited-time beverage menu and Rock Shop merchandise to drive incremental covers and check averages during competition windows.

The structure follows a bracket-style model familiar to operators who have run Battle of the Bands or open-mic programming. Artists submit two original songs by August 18. Live rounds at participating Cafes run September 2, 9, 16, and 23, with local fan votes advancing acts round by round. The Coke Studio team then selects one global grand prize winner, who earns a Coke Studio recording session, $10,000, and a headline performance at Hard Rock Orlando. A winner announcement is scheduled for October 5.

The Operator Angle

For Hard Rock Cafe — a full-service, entertainment-dining concept where music programming has long served as a traffic driver and daypart extender — the activation is as much a unit-level revenue play as it is a brand statement. The limited-time menu built around Coca-Cola products creates a beverage upsell mechanic during each competition night, while co-branded apparel through streetwear label Cult of Individuality and merchandise at Rock Shops and shop.hardrock.com extends the revenue opportunity beyond the dining room.

"Hard Rock Cafes have always connected people through the power of music," said Eric Martino, President of Hard Rock Cafe and Retail at Hard Rock International. "Hard Rock Rising is a natural extension of that mission to empower emerging artists to perform their original music." The partnership with Coca-Cola brings Coke Studio L.A. Live's production infrastructure into the mix; multi-platinum executive producer Rob Rettberg leads the Coke Studio team overseeing grand prize winner selection and recording.

Scale and Competitive Context

At 64 participating locations across 34 countries, Hard Rock Rising represents a meaningful deployment of the Cafe estate for a single promotional campaign. The full-service entertainment-dining segment has leaned heavily into experiential programming — live music, themed LTOs, limited merchandise drops — as a hedge against the off-premise shift that has structurally pressured traditional casual dining. For operators benchmarking against peers, the Hard Rock model of music-anchored hospitality continues to differentiate on guest dwell time and repeat-visit intent in ways that delivery-optimized concepts cannot easily replicate.

The Coca-Cola co-branding also signals growing interest from major beverage manufacturers in tying marketing spend directly to operator-level activation — a trend worth watching for franchised and licensed foodservice operators negotiating pouring-rights agreements. Pairing a global artist competition with an in-restaurant LTO beverage menu gives Coca-Cola measurable foot-traffic exposure across dozens of markets simultaneously, a value proposition that extends well beyond a traditional sponsorship placement.

Artist submissions are open through August 18 at cafe.hardrock.com/hard-rock-rising. For operators and industry observers tracking entertainment-dining programming and beverage brand partnerships, the competition's October 5 finale will serve as an early read on audience engagement across the Cafe's global footprint.
