The Hershey Company is rolling out its broadest Halloween assortment to date, with more than 20 innovations spanning chocolate, gummies, and — for the first time at scale — salty snacks. The move signals a deliberate push to extend seasonal sell-through beyond the traditional October candy window and capture a broader set of foodservice and retail snacking occasions, including trunk-or-treat events, school parties, and what Hershey's own research terms "Summerween" purchasing.

The company's Unwrapping Halloween: Hershey's State of the Season Report, fielded by Morning Consult among 3,026 U.S. adults in July 2026, frames the commercial rationale clearly: nearly two-thirds of parents have already purchased Halloween candy during summer months, and half are in "Halloween mode" before October begins. That elongated purchase curve creates incremental planogram space and LTO opportunity for operators and retailers willing to commit early shelf real estate.

The Confection Core

Chocolate remains the anchor daypart of the Halloween category. According to Hershey's consumer data, 77% of parents are likely to buy chocolate before September, rising to 82% in October. The confection lineup leans on proven formats refreshed with seasonal shapes: KIT KAT Count & Witch returns in new instant-consumable pack types and a 6-pack sharing format — relevant for operators stocking checkout impulse and convenience channels — while Reese's Pumpkins, the category's top-ranked individual Halloween product at 22% consumer preference, gains an Amazon-exclusive 110-count Pumpkin Bowl SKU. Hershey's Cookies 'N' Creme Fangs makes its first Halloween return since 2024. On the non-chocolate side, the gummy and chewy segment is expanding rapidly: 74% of parents are likely to buy gummy candy in October, and 64% intend to purchase sour strips or belts during the same period. New Jolly Rancher Gummies Trickies Minis Snack Size and a Sweets Assortment Stand-Up Bag — which marks the debut of Sour Strips in Hershey's seasonal portfolio — are positioned to capture that demand across multiple price points and package formats.

Salty Snacks Enter the Mix

The most strategically significant development for foodservice and convenience operators is Hershey's first broad salty Halloween push. Pirate's Booty Trick-or-Treat snack packs and Pirate's Booty Boos & Bites (ghost and monster shaped cheddar puffs) offer a non-candy option suited to school events and trunk-or-treat occasions — a format 30% of parents plan to attend this season. SkinnyPop Halloween Packs extend the better-for-you popcorn segment into seasonal packaging, while the new Reese's Sweet & Salty assortment — combining Dipped Animal Crackers, Dipped Pretzels, and Filled Pretzels — creates a cross-category snack pack with incremental ring potential.

LesserEvil joins the Hersheyween portfolio for the first time, bringing Pumpkin Spice Popcorn, Spooky Popcorn, and Spooky Spaceballs cheese puffs into the seasonal set. Hershey's own data shows 52% of adults and 67% of parents are already seeking fall flavors by late September, giving the LesserEvil line a natural demand window in the weeks before the core Halloween spike. For operators managing convenience, grocery, and foodservice snack sections, the salty expansion broadens basket-building opportunities and accommodates guests who are buying for events rather than just trick-or-treating.

Hershey holds three of the top five chocolate brands in the Halloween category by Circana data (Reese's at No. 1, KIT KAT at No. 3, Reese's Shapes at No. 5), and the company is extending that market position into adjacent seasonal snack categories where the competitive set is more fragmented. Products are rolling onto shelves now for the full season.
