The Expansion Play

HexClad, the Los Angeles-based premium cookware brand, is entering Italy with a dual announcement: the addition of Massimo Bottura — three-Michelin-star chef and founder of Osteria Francescana — to its Global Culinary Council, and a three-year global partnership with Bottura's nonprofit, Food for Soul. The moves signal an accelerating international push for a brand that has grown from a U.S. direct-to-consumer play into a multi-continent cookware label since pioneering the hybrid stainless-nonstick category in 2016.

Italy represents a strategically loaded market entry. The country's deep culinary infrastructure — from professional kitchens and high-end hospitality schools to a consumer base that treats cookware as a long-term investment — positions HexClad to compete at the premium tier where AUV per SKU and brand credibility drive purchase decisions. "Italy has shaped the way the world thinks about food, craftsmanship and hospitality, making it an incredibly important market for HexClad," said Daniel Winer, CEO and Co-Founder of HexClad. The brand's European hub will support Italian distribution, mirroring the regional infrastructure already serving Northern European markets.

The Council Roster

Bottura joins a Global Culinary Council that already includes Gordon Ramsay — a brand investor whose partnership predates the council's formal structure — alongside Dominique Crenn, Nancy Silverton, Clare Smyth, and Paul Ainsworth. The roster reads like a Michelin atlas, a deliberate positioning strategy for a brand competing against legacy European cookware manufacturers in markets where professional provenance matters to both foodservice buyers and premium home cooks. "HexClad shares my belief that the kitchen should be a place for creativity, curiosity and pushing boundaries," Bottura said. His role involves informing product innovation, though no specific SKUs or launch timelines were disclosed.

Food for Soul Partnership

The nonprofit dimension adds a layer of operator-adjacent relevance. Under the three-year agreement, HexClad will provide financial support to Food for Soul and supply cookware to its Refettorio community kitchens — high-design spaces that transform surplus ingredients into restaurant-quality meals, a model with direct parallels to food-waste reduction initiatives gaining traction across foodservice. HexClad will also mobilize its chef network for volunteer and fundraising programming tied to Food for Soul's global Refettorio locations. Lara Gilmore, Founder and President of Food for Soul, framed the collaboration as a way to "strengthen our Refettorio communities while inspiring a more thoughtful and sustainable approach to cooking."

For the commercial foodservice channel, HexClad's Italy entry is worth watching on two fronts. First, the brand's direct-to-consumer model — which drove its Inc. 5000 placements from 2023 through 2025 — is increasingly paired with strategic retail and hospitality channel expansion as it scales internationally. Second, equipping working nonprofit kitchens with its cookware gives HexClad operational proof points in a professional cooking context, a useful credential when pitching foodservice operators and culinary educators in a new market. No financial terms for the Food for Soul partnership or the Italy launch were disclosed.
