The LTO Play

Jamba is deploying a limited-time smoothie and consumer sweepstakes across more than 750 domestic locations as part of a promotional tie-in with Black Bear's theatrical comedy Spa Weekend, which opens exclusively in theaters August 21. The Spa Weekend Whirl'd smoothie — a mango, peach, pineapple, and ginger blend — is available at participating units through August 31, giving GoTo Foods' smoothie brand a four-week traffic-driving window ahead of and during the film's wide release.

Film co-promotions have become a reliable daypart and frequency lever for beverage-forward fast-casual chains, particularly during the summer occasion window when smoothie category demand peaks. For Jamba, which operates in 36 U.S. states and 8 countries and territories, the activation runs system-wide, amplifying reach without additional unit investment — a structurally efficient move for a largely franchised footprint.

Sweepstakes Mechanics

The consumer-facing sweepstakes awards one grand-prize winner and two guests a spa trip to Costa Rica, with five runner-up winners receiving a Jamba Spa Kit that includes a bathrobe, slippers, a Jamba-branded ice bath, and Jamba and Fandango gift cards. Entry is handled through a dedicated microsite. Every Spa Weekend Whirl'd purchase also includes a co-branded reusable koozie — a tangible brand-impression vehicle that travels beyond the four walls and supports loyalty program awareness through the Jamba Rewards ecosystem.

"At Jamba, we believe the best moments are the ones you share," said Kate Morgan, Vice President of Marketing at Jamba. "Spa Weekend perfectly captures that spirit, and this partnership brings it to life with a smoothie inspired by the film and a chance to create unforgettable memories."

Brand and Segment Context

GoTo Foods — the Atlanta-based multi-brand franchisor formerly known as Focus Brands — operates over 7,500 restaurants, cafes, and bakeries across all 50 states and 72 countries under banners including Auntie Anne's, Cinnabon, Moe's Southwest Grill, McAlister's Deli, and Schlotzsky's Deli. Jamba sits within that portfolio as the group's primary beverage-forward, health-occasion brand, competing in a smoothie and juice segment that includes Tropical Smoothie Cafe and Smoothie King. LTO velocity and loyalty enrollment are two of the clearest unit-economics levers available to smoothie chains, where AUVs and check averages are structurally lower than full-service peers.

Film-studio co-promotions have seen a resurgence in the QSR and fast-casual segment following the well-documented "Barbenheimer" marketing cycle in 2023, which demonstrated outsized consumer engagement when brand and entertainment properties share a coherent audience and occasion. Spa Weekend — written and directed by Jon Lucas and Scott Moore (Bad Moms, The Hangover) and starring Leslie Mann, Isla Fisher, Michelle Buteau, and Anna Faris — targets a female-skewing adult audience that aligns with Jamba's core consumer demographic, making the partnership a logical fit rather than a reach play.

For franchisees, the system-wide LTO provides a corporate-funded marketing lift with no required local ad spend beyond participation, a structure that tends to support operator buy-in across area development agreement holders. The August 3–31 window also keeps the promotional calendar tight, reducing operational complexity around ingredient procurement and crew training — a recurring concern for multi-unit operators managing labor in a still-elevated wage environment.
