The Appointment

McDonald's Corporation has named Skye Anderson President of McDonald's USA, effective August 4, putting a 26-year company veteran in charge of nearly 14,000 domestic restaurants. Anderson succeeds Joe Erlinger, who is departing after more than two decades with the company, including close to seven years leading the U.S. market. Erlinger will remain as an advisor through early 2027 to support the handoff.

The move caps a deliberate succession sequence initiated earlier this year when Anderson returned to McDonald's USA as Chief Operating Officer — a structured runway designed to ensure continuity ahead of the leadership change. Her elevation signals the company's intent to keep operational discipline and franchisee alignment at the center of its U.S. commercial agenda as it executes the McDonald's > NEXT growth strategy.

The Operator Track Record

Anderson's résumé is unusually broad for a U.S. market president. Her 26 years span finance leadership in Australia, field and zone management across the United States, and the build-out of the company's Global Business Services function. Most relevant to her new mandate: a four-year run heading the U.S. West Zone, where she helped modernize a base of more than 5,700 restaurants, delivered comparable sales growth exceeding 30%, and increased average restaurant unit cash flow by $100,000.

That AUV cash-flow improvement is the number franchisees will note. For a system in which approximately 95% of locations are owner-operated, a president who has moved unit-level economics at scale carries instant credibility with the area development and Owner/Operator community. "Skye combines deep operational discipline with strong financial judgment and has earned the trust of Owner/Operators, suppliers and employees," said Chris Kempczinski, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of McDonald's Corporation.

What's Next for U.S. Operations

Anderson inherits a U.S. business navigating familiar quick-service pressures: value-seeking consumers, labor cost normalization, and sustained competitive activity across the QSR segment. McDonald's > NEXT frames the company's response around being customers' first choice while unlocking productivity across the system — a dual mandate that touches digital ordering mix, drive-thru throughput, and menu LTO cadence.

Erlinger's tenure built out the digital and loyalty infrastructure that now drives a meaningful share of U.S. sales; Anderson's operational background positions her to convert that digital foundation into consistent restaurant-level execution. Kempczinski noted that Anderson has repeatedly demonstrated an ability to translate strategy into in-restaurant results — the critical last mile where franchise system performance is ultimately won or lost.

For the broader foodservice industry, the appointment reinforces a broader trend of QSR giants elevating operators with unit-economics fluency rather than pure marketing or brand profiles into top country roles — a reflection of how consequential franchisee relations and store-level margin management have become in the current environment.
