Hormel Foods Corporation's Planters brand is pushing into the fall snacking window with three new or returning limited-time offerings, a move that signals the $12 billion branded-food company's continued investment in premium, seasonal SKU rotation as a demand driver across retail and foodservice-adjacent channels.

The New SKUs

Leading the fall lineup are two flavored-nut items: Maple Brown Sugar Almonds (15.25 oz.), a new-to-market SKU, and Apple Cider Donut Cashews (13 oz.), a returning LTO that sold through at Kroger, select Albertsons and Safeway locations, Publix, and Ahold banners in prior seasons. Both items are available now on Amazon, with broader brick-and-mortar distribution rolling through mid-August. Patrick Horbas, marketing director of the Planters brand, positioned the fall collection as a "premium protein" play, citing the nostalgia-driven consumer behavior that concentrates snack purchase intent around autumn flavor cues.

Special Reserve Expands

The more operationally significant development for high-volume accounts is the expansion of the Planters Special Reserve Peanuts line. A new 34-ounce shareable format — sourced from a single Virginia grower and finished through small-batch roasting and hand-salting — debuts exclusively on Sam's Club e-commerce in early October. The 13-ounce Special Reserve format, now in its third consecutive annual release, returns on Amazon beginning August 18. Gillian Lozak, associate brand manager for the Planters brand, noted the repeat program reflects sustained consumer interest: "PLANTERS Special Reserve continues to redefine expectations for what a peanut can be, delivering a premium experience that has resonated with consumers year after year."

Operator and Channel Context

For foodservice operators and contract caterers sourcing snack items for amenity programs, catered events, or grab-and-go sets, Planters' seasonal LTO cadence mirrors a broader industry pattern: premium nut brands are leaning into limited-availability mechanics to justify higher price points and drive incremental velocity during high-traffic fall and holiday dayparts. The snack-nut category has benefited from sustained consumer interest in portable, protein-forward options, a trend well-documented across convenience and non-commercial foodservice channels. Single-origin sourcing credentials — as with the Virginia-grown Special Reserve peanuts — are increasingly used as a quality differentiator in both retail and food-and-beverage procurement conversations.

Hormel (NYSE: HRL), which acquired the Planters brand in 2021, has used the property to pursue the upper end of the snack-nut segment. The fall 2026 collection is consistent with that positioning: limited quantities, channel-specific exclusives (Sam's Club for the large-format SKU, Amazon for the 13-ounce), and flavor profiles calibrated to seasonal occasion marketing. The full fall rollout is expected to complete across major retailers through September, with all items carrying a limited-time-only designation.
