The LTO Lineup

Rita's Italian Ice & Frozen Custard, the largest Italian Ice concept in the world by unit count, is activating a four-item fall limited-time offer built around two seasonal flavor platforms — Pumpkin and Apple Butter — across its more than 600 locations. The LTO push follows a well-worn foodservice playbook: anchor autumn traffic to proprietary seasonal SKUs before competing QSR and fast-casual chains fully saturate the pumpkin daypart.

The four items span multiple menu formats, broadening attach-rate potential across both beverage and spoonable categories. The Pumpkin Frozen Coffee layers pumpkin crème into Rita's signature blended coffee base, topped with whipped cream. The Pumpkin Pie Concrete blends Vanilla Frozen Custard with pumpkin crème and vanilla wafers. On the apple side, the Apple Butter Milkshake combines Vanilla Frozen Custard with apple butter flavor, whipped cream, and a cherry, while the Apple Butter Concrete incorporates vanilla wafers and apple pie topping for a textured, multi-component build.

Seasonal Strategy

The fall LTO cycle is among the highest-stakes promotional windows in the frozen-treat and dessert segment. Rita's move to cover both beverage and concrete formats is a deliberate attempt to capture multiple visit occasions — commuters trading up on a morning Frozen Coffee and families returning for a shareable spoonable format. Carmela Hughley, Senior Vice President of Marketing Insights & Innovation at Rita's, framed the rollout around the emotional pull of the season: "For so many of our guests, the first taste of pumpkin is when fall officially begins. There's a reason pumpkin season has become a celebration of its own, and at Rita's, we're all in."

The pumpkin daypart has become a system-wide traffic lever across foodservice, with major QSR, fast-casual, and coffee chains competing aggressively for the same seasonal consumer. For a 600-plus-unit frozen-treat concept, anchoring fall incremental visits to an LTO-driven promotional calendar can meaningfully offset the seasonal traffic softness that traditionally weighs on cold-treat operators as temperatures cool. Rita's also deploys its Italian Ice — made fresh daily on-site from a rotating roster of more than 80 flavors — as an operational differentiator against frozen-treat competitors reliant on pre-made product.

Loyalty Integration

Rita's is pairing the fall LTO with a loyalty acquisition push tied to its branded mobile app, offering new members one free small item upon sign-up and first purchase. For franchise operators, app-driven loyalty programs represent a low-cost mechanism to build direct guest relationships, support repeat-visit frequency, and generate first-party data that can sharpen future daypart and LTO targeting. Birthday rewards and exclusive in-app offers round out the program's retention layer.

With a franchised store network of this scale, system-level alignment on a coordinated seasonal LTO — supported by national PR, app incentives, and consistent in-store execution — is central to driving franchisee-level same-store sales momentum during a competitively crowded fall promotional window.
