Louisville-based Sazerac Company is entering the U.S. soju category for the first time with the launch of DALHO Soju, a four-flavor line available in both a classic 375mL bottle and a 50mL single-serve format the company is billing as the first of its kind in the soju segment. The brand hits select restaurants, bars, and retailers through Sazerac's existing domestic distribution network starting this month.

The Product and Pricing

DALHO is distilled from grain and bottled at 17% ABV — in line with the soju category's standard proof range — across Original, Peach, Strawberry, and Lychee expressions. Suggested retail is $0.99 for the 50mL bottle (available in $9.99 ten-packs) and $5.99 for the 375mL, positioning the brand at or below mass-market soju competitors on a per-milliliter basis. The 50mL format is a deliberate on-premise play: the small-format bottle lowers the trial barrier at the bar level and gives operators a low-cost upsell for flight programming or cocktail menus without committing to a full 375mL pour.

Category and Channel Context

Soju is among the faster-moving import spirits categories in the U.S. right now. According to IWSR data cited by Sazerac, U.S. soju volumes are projected to grow at a 16.0% compound annual growth rate through 2029, outpacing the broader spirits market and driven primarily by younger legal-drinking-age consumers drawn to flavor-forward, lower-ABV options. That growth trajectory has drawn attention across the beverage alcohol and on-premise segments, where Korean cuisine's continued expansion into mainstream dining has pulled soju from ethnic-specialty shelves into general spirits sets and cocktail menus at full-service restaurants and hospitality accounts.

For Sazerac — whose 500-plus brand portfolio includes Fireball, Buffalo Trace, and Southern Comfort — DALHO represents an asset-light category extension rather than an acquisition. The company leverages its existing sales infrastructure and distributor relationships to enter a segment it has not previously competed in, keeping launch costs manageable while testing on-premise velocity before committing to broader format or SKU expansion.

On-Premise Opportunity

From an operator standpoint, soju's lower ABV and sweeter flavor profiles make it a natural fit for LTO cocktail programs targeting the daypart between dinner and late night, as well as for Korean barbecue and pan-Asian concepts where the spirit is already part of the dining ritual. The 50mL format also opens a new convenience-channel angle for foodservice-adjacent retail — travel plazas, hotel minibars, and stadium concessions — where single-serve spirits have shown consistent velocity.

Lauren Selman, Brand Director of Global Growth & Innovation at Sazerac, framed the launch around accessibility: "Whether someone is trying soju for the first time or already enjoys the category, the flavors and the 50mL format offer an approachable way to explore the DALHO lineup and discover something they enjoy." That positioning aligns with broader spirits innovation trends in the on-premise channel, where operators increasingly seek entry-level formats to drive trial without heavy promotional spend.
