Digital tipping and gratuity management platform eTip has joined the Toast Partner Ecosystem, giving Toast-powered restaurants across the United States a direct integration to automate tip calculations, pool distributions, and instant employee payouts—eliminating a back-office workflow that has long consumed manager hours and created compliance exposure.

The Operational Problem

Manual tip reconciliation remains one of the more persistent inefficiencies in foodservice operations. Managers at table-service and fast-casual units routinely spend time calculating tip pools from POS exports, running cash to banks, or distributing pay cards—administrative overhead that compounds across multi-unit operators. With digital and card-based payments now the default tender in most dining environments, the gap between how guests pay and how employees receive gratuities has widened, leaving cash-handling and spreadsheet workarounds in place long after the front-of-house went cashless.

Through the new integration, eTip automatically imports sales and labor data from Toast to calculate tip pools, splits, and tip shares according to each restaurant's customized policy. Once a manager approves the distribution, funds move directly to employees' preferred bank accounts, reducing reliance on cash, physical pay cards, or third-party manual transfers.

What the Integration Delivers

Beyond tip automation, eTip's broader platform includes earned wage access, on-demand payouts, emergency savings tools, and credit-building features—positioning the integration as a labor-retention tool as much as an operational efficiency play. In a segment where hourly turnover rates remain elevated, faster access to earned wages has become a meaningful differentiator in recruitment and retention, particularly for high-volume units competing for hourly staff.

Nick Danforth, Senior Director of Business Development and Strategic Partnerships at Toast, called the pairing a way for operators to run "two powerful solutions that work together seamlessly." Nicolas Cassis, CEO and co-founder of eTip, framed the integration around labor experience: "Restaurants shouldn't have to choose between delivering exceptional guest experiences and spending hours managing tip distribution."

Toast's partner ecosystem now exceeds 200 technology providers spanning reservations, inventory, payroll, marketing, and workforce management. The eTip addition deepens the payroll and employee-earnings layer of that stack, an area of growing investment as operators seek integrated technology platforms that reduce the number of manual handoffs between systems. For multi-unit operators in particular, centralizing tip policy enforcement across locations addresses both labor-law compliance risk and the operational inconsistency that arises when individual managers run their own reconciliation processes.

eTip's hospitality footprint spans hotels, gaming, and service locations in addition to restaurants, giving the platform cross-segment data and policy templates that single-segment solutions typically lack.
