The Move

Grupo Jumex, the 65-year-old Mexican juice and nectar brand, is stepping outside its legacy fruit-beverage portfolio with the national launch of Jumex Protein Shake™ — a ready-to-drink line delivering 30g of protein per 12 fl. oz. bottle. The product enters Walmart's full U.S. fleet of 2,942 doors simultaneously, alongside Walmart.com, giving the brand immediate national scale without a staged regional rollout.

The SKU lineup — Mango, Churro Chocolate, and Vanilla Flan — is an explicit play on differentiation in a RTD protein segment that has long been dominated by vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry iterations from legacy brands such as Ensure, Premier Protein, and Fairlife. Jumex's thesis is that flavor novelty, rooted in recognizable Mexican culinary traditions, can carve out shelf space from consumers fatigued by functional-but-forgettable options.

Channel & Category Context

The RTD protein beverage category has been one of mass retail's fastest-growing center-store segments, benefiting from broad consumer interest in high-protein diets and the convenience-nutrition occasion. Walmart's scale as a launch partner is significant: a simultaneous 2,942-door debut bypasses the trial-and-expand model most emerging beverage brands use and signals that both Jumex and the retailer expect sufficient velocity to justify full-chain placement from day one.

For Jumex, the move also represents a deliberate channel-expansion strategy beyond the Latin grocery and mainstream juice aisles where its nectar and juice cans have historically been stocked. Entering the lifestyle nutrition set — typically positioned in a separate refrigerated or shelf-stable performance-beverage section — exposes the brand to a distinct shopper mission and a higher average retail price point than its core juice products.

Salvi Folch, Chief Executive Officer of Grupo Jumex, characterized the launch as a structural pivot. "We are entering a large and growing category at national scale, offering consumers a differentiated protein beverage that brings together functionality, convenience, and authentic Mexican-inspired flavors," he said. Carlos Madrazo, Country Manager for Jumex USA, framed the flavor angle as a deliberate category disruption: "The category can still feel too predictable. With Jumex Protein Shake™, we wanted to bring a protein shake inspired by Mexican flavors to the shelf."

What Operators Should Watch

For commercial foodservice buyers and convenience-channel operators, Jumex's Walmart launch serves as a proof-of-concept test. If velocity data from the mass-retail debut supports expansion, the brand is a natural candidate for c-store cold-vault sets, campus dining RTD coolers, and club-channel multipacks — all dayparts where high-protein grab-and-go beverages continue to see strong segment growth. The Churro Chocolate and Vanilla Flan profiles in particular align with flavor-forward LTO strategies that operators across fast-casual and QSR segments have used to drive trial among Hispanic consumers, the fastest-growing foodservice demographic in the U.S.

Jumex has not disclosed suggested retail pricing, AUV projections, or volume targets for the launch.
