The J.M. Smucker Co. (SJM) has named Douglas Guilherme Senior Vice President, Operations and Supply Chain, effective July 29. Guilherme will report to Rob Ferguson, Chief Product Supply Officer and Executive Vice President of Coffee, Pet, and Away From Home, and will be charged with advancing operational and supply chain excellence across Smucker's multibrand enterprise.
The Hire
Guilherme arrives with more than 30 years of global supply chain and operations experience spanning consumer goods, food, and chemicals. Most recently, he served as Senior Vice President, Global Supply Chain at The Hershey Company, where his mandate included manufacturing, engineering, continuous improvement, planning, logistics, digital supply chain transformation, and network strategy. Before Hershey, he held senior leadership posts at Procter & Gamble and served as Global Senior Vice President of Supply Chain at Ecolab.
Ferguson described Guilherme as bringing "a strong track record of delivering results and driving transformation while fostering high-performing teams and a culture of continuous improvement" — credentials that carry direct relevance for a company managing complex, multi-category manufacturing and distribution across coffee, peanut butter, sweet baked goods, and pet food.
Why It Matters
For foodservice operators, Smucker's away-from-home channel is a meaningful touchpoint. The company holds licensed rights to distribute Dunkin'-branded packaged coffee into certain away-from-home channels, alongside its core Folgers and Café Bustelo portfolios — segments where supply chain reliability directly affects operator purchasing continuity and cost-per-cup economics.
The appointment comes as food manufacturers broadly face pressure to compress lead times, absorb commodity volatility, and accelerate digital integration across procurement and logistics. Smucker's decision to recruit from Hershey — a CPG peer that has invested heavily in end-to-end supply chain digitization — signals a priority on transformation rather than incremental optimization. For multi-unit and chain operators buying at scale, leadership stability and supply chain investment at key broadline suppliers translate directly into fill-rate performance and contract pricing predictability.
The company's away-from-home division competes in a coffee segment where single-serve and bulk coffee supply dynamics have tightened since 2023, making operational discipline at the manufacturer level a competitive differentiator for the operator accounts Smucker services. Guilherme's background in network strategy and digital supply chain transformation aligns with the kind of supply chain resilience investment that large foodservice distributors increasingly require from preferred supplier partners.
