New York-based Tabbed has joined the Toast Partner Ecosystem, embedding its Bluetooth-enabled mobile payment and AI guest-intelligence platform inside the Toast POS to give operators frictionless tab management and real-time guest profiling without additional hardware at the table.
The Operator Case
The integration lets guests auto-connect their phones to an active check via Bluetooth, dine without interruption, and close their tab — or simply walk out — when ready. Bill splitting happens in seconds on the guest's device, eliminating the math-at-the-table moment that slows turn times and frustrates servers. In a six-month pilot at a single Atlanta restaurant, Tabbed reported cutting payment-related service time by more than nine minutes per table and lifting average tips 24%. Toast's ecosystem now spans more than 200 integration partners, and Tabbed slots into the payments and guest-engagement layer.
What the AI Layer Does
Beyond frictionless checkout, Tabbed's AI reads each live check and surfaces contextual suggestions to the server on the Toast POS display: wine pairings matched to entrees already ordered, optimal timing for a second-round prompt, and dessert recommendations calibrated to party size and dining pace. Guest profiles — visit frequency, past orders, dietary flags, special occasions — populate at the moment the table is opened, reducing the cognitive load on floor staff without requiring them to memorize regulars. The goal, according to Grant Pignio, CEO at Tabbed, is to separate execution from hospitality: "By integrating with Toast, Tabbed can put that information in front of Toast customers the moment a guest sits down, so they can focus on the guest instead of trying to recall it all. And we take the payment out of the equation at the end, so people leave remembering the meal, not the wait to pay for it."
Tabbed also routes guest feedback collected at checkout into a private resolution channel before surfacing satisfied guests toward public review platforms — a reputation-management mechanic that full-service operators have increasingly sought as online ratings influence cover counts and OpenTable rank.
Advisory Bench and Backing
The startup carries strategic weight on its advisory board: Paul Brown, founder and CEO of Inspire Brands, and GJ Hart, CEO of SPB Hospitality — two executives with combined oversight of thousands of full-service and fast-casual units — signal that Tabbed's thesis resonates at the multi-unit operator level. Funding comes from Branded Hospitality, the restaurant-focused venture and strategic advisory firm, alongside angel investors.
Nick Danforth, Senior Director of Business Development at Toast, framed the partnership as additive to the platform's hospitality stack: "By partnering with Tabbed, restaurants can now operate a more efficient and customer-centric business." For operators running high-volume full-service dining, the combination of faster table turns, higher per-server tip income, and personalized upsell prompts maps directly to unit-economics gains that franchisees and independent operators alike are chasing in a labor-cost environment that remains elevated across the sector.
The Tabbed-Toast pairing also reflects a broader pattern in restaurant technology: POS incumbents expanding their partner ecosystems to deliver AI-layer functionality without building it in-house, keeping the core platform asset-light on R&D while giving operators a curated marketplace of bolt-on tools. For Tabbed, the Toast network provides immediate distribution reach across the platform's tens of thousands of restaurant locations.
