The Retail Push

Ritter Sport USA is placing its 7.7-oz DUO bars in 900 Target stores nationwide beginning this month, marking the German premium chocolate brand's most significant U.S. retail door expansion to date. The move deepens the brand's footprint in the mass channel alongside its existing presence at World Market, Publix, Kroger, CVS, The Fresh Market, Hy-Vee, Raley's, and Woodmans.

The DUO format, first introduced in fall 2025, presents two side-by-side flavor profiles within a single oversized bar. Two SKUs will anchor the Target set: the existing Sweet & Salty DUO — caramel cream and salty butter biscuit pieces with chocolate brownie — and a new Cookie DUO that layers chocolate cream with crunchy cookie pieces alongside vanilla cream with cocoa and vanilla biscuit. Both carry a $9.75 suggested retail price, positioning them in the premium gifting and sharing tier of the confectionery aisle.

Fall Innovation Slate

Beyond the Target launch, Ritter Sport is extending its salted caramel platform — already a demonstrated velocity driver in the U.S. — into two new seasonal formats. Mixed Caramel Minis, packed in premium standup bags, bundle three SKUs: Caramel Pretzel, Caramel Popcorn, and Double Caramel Crunch. A companion item, Caramel Choco Cubes, delivers bite-sized milk chocolate pieces with double caramel layers. Both formats arrive at broad food, drug, and mass retail with a $6.89 starting SRP.

"From our new DUO bars to the fall caramel innovations, we're continuing to bring fresh chocolate experiences to the category," said Chris Avery, Vice President of Sales for Ritter Sport USA, noting that the launches align with seasonal demand while staying consistent with the brand's quality positioning.

Category Context

Ritter Sport cites Nielsen Total U.S. xAOC data through the week ending July 11, 2026, to support its claim as the fastest-growing premium chocolate brand in the country. That trajectory reflects broader segment dynamics: premium and imported chocolate continues to outpace the center-store confectionery average as consumers trade up on perceived ingredient quality and brand provenance. The Target placement specifically targets the retailer's well-documented grocery expansion strategy, which has made it a meaningful premium food destination competing directly with specialty grocery and club-channel formats.

For foodservice-adjacent operators — hotel minibar programs, café retail walls, corporate dining grab-and-go sets — the expanded mass-retail footprint signals growing consumer familiarity with the Ritter Sport square format, a factor that can ease impulse confectionery adoption at non-traditional points of distribution. Parent company Alfred Ritter GmbH & Co. KG, a family-owned manufacturer founded in 1912 and headquartered in Waldenbuch, Germany, recorded €605 million in sales in 2024 across more than 100 countries, giving the U.S. operation meaningful production scale and supply chain depth behind these launches.
